Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the discount % between two prices?

Formula: discount % = (original − sale) ÷ original × 100. Example: a price of SAR 200 dropping to SAR 150 gives (200 − 150) ÷ 200 × 100 = 25%. Use the 'from two prices' mode above to get it instantly.

How do I calculate the price after a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount % to get the discount amount, then subtract it. For 25% off SAR 200: discount = 200 × 25% = SAR 50, price after = 200 − 50 = SAR 150. The calculator does this automatically to halala precision.

Is the discount applied before or after VAT?

Accounting practice is that a commercial discount applies to the price first, then 15% VAT is charged on the discounted amount (discount-then-VAT). The final figure is mathematically identical either way for a single percentage, but the invoice presentation is: price, discount, taxable base, then VAT. The 'discount + VAT' mode shows you both steps.

How do I price sale offers without losing money?

Work out your margin first: make sure the after-discount price stays above your cost plus expenses. Quick rule: don't discount by more than your margin. Use the 'offer pricing' mode to apply the discount to your whole product list and compare the before/after totals before you commit.

What's the difference between a discount and an advertised sale?

A 'discount' is a calculation on the price, while advertised 'sales' are a marketing activity regulated by the Ministry of Commerce and may require a sales permit in certain periods. Check the sale-advertising requirements before launching your campaign. This is general information, not legal advice.
